Youth Coach (Part-Time & Full-Time)
18 hours per week or 36-43 hours per week

About the role
We are looking for kind, compassionate and motivated Youth Coach to join our team supporting young people aged 16–25 as they transition into adulthood and develop their independence.
The young people we support may have experienced care, trauma, disrupted relationships or other difficult life experiences. Some may have emotional, mental health or other complex needs that can affect how they communicate, manage emotions and navigate everyday life.
As a Youth Coach, you will take the time to get to know each young person, understand what is important to them and provide consistent, respectful support that helps them feel safe, listened to and valued.
You will support young people to develop the practical and emotional skills they need to move towards greater independence, while recognising that progress is individual and does not always happen in a straight line.
What you will be doing
You will work alongside young people to support them with everyday life and their individual goals, which may include:
- Building positive, trusting and professional relationships with young people.
- Supporting young people with daily routines and independent living skills.
- Encouraging confidence, self-esteem and emotional well-being.
- Supporting young people to manage challenges, emotions and difficult situations.
- Helping young people access education, employment, training and community opportunities.
- Supporting attendance at appointments and other important commitments.
- Encouraging young people to develop practical skills such as cooking, budgeting, shopping, cleaning and managing their home.
- Advocating for young people and helping them understand and express their views and wishes.
- Recognising and responding appropriately to safeguarding concerns, risks and incidents.
- Following individual support plans, risk assessments and agreed strategies.
- Maintaining accurate, clear and confidential records.
- Working positively with colleagues, families, social workers and other professionals involved in a young person's support.
- Helping to maintain a safe, welcoming and nurturing home environment.

Experience
Experience of working with young people is desirable, particularly experience within:
- Supported accommodation or leaving-care services.
- Children's or adult social care.
- Mental health or emotional well-being services.
- Residential or foster care.
- Education, youth work or other roles supporting vulnerable people.
An understanding of trauma, mental health, safeguarding or complex needs would be advantageous.
However, experience isn't everything.

You will be part of a team where collaboration and good communication are important, while also being trusted to use your own initiative when working independently.
A typical shift starts at3:30pm, supporting young people throughout the evening with meals, life skills, appointments, activities and wellbeing. At11:00pm, you'll begin a sleep‑in shift and be available should a young person need support during the night. Sleep-in hours are paid at an hourly rate, and the shift resumes at7:00ambefore finishing at9:30amfollowing morning support.
Salary starts at £13.25 per hour for weekday shifts and £14.75 per hour for weekend shifts. Sleep-in hours are paid at the applicable National Minimum Wage rate, currently £12.71 per hour, with 8 hours paid for each sleep-in shift.
The role involves a mixture of weekday and weekend shifts, working on a rolling two‑week rota with one weekend on and one weekend off. This predictable pattern helps provide a good work‑life balance for staff while ensuring consistent support for the young people we work with.
