Island Sheetmetal Limited is looking to recruit a Welder Fabricator to join our fabrication team. We are happy to consider both somebody at an early stage of their engineering career to be trained in-house to become a highly skilled welder fabricator, and those with prior experience. Those requiring further training will be trained in MIG and TIG welding to a high standard, with the long-term aim of achieving coded welding qualifications where appropriate. The role also involves a wide range of workshop-based fabrication activities, working on both large and small components in mild steel, aluminium, and stainless steel. Candidates with experience must be competent to a very high standard of work, with strong technical knowledge and a proven track record.

Key Responsibilities

  • MIG and TIG welding operations
  • Producing high-quality welds to a coded standard
  • Carry out general fabrication tasks including cutting, drilling, tapping, and preparation of materials
  • Work from engineering and technical drawings
  • Assist in the fabrication and assembly of large and small components
  • Perform basic quality checks to ensure work meets specifications
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workshop environment
  • Follow all health and safety procedures

Training & Development

  • On the job in-house training provided as required
  • Opportunity to progress to coded welding qualifications
  • External training courses may be provided where necessary & beneficial
  • Long-term development into a skilled and qualified welder fabricator

Skills & Experience (Essential)

  • Prior welding or fabrication experience (MIG/TIG) is essential
  • Understanding of fabrication tools and workshop practices
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings including GD&T (tolerances)
  • NVQ, BTEC, apprenticeship, or similar qualification in Welding, Fabrication, or Engineering preferred
  • Good attention to detail and a willingness to learn
  • Positive attitude, reliability, and strong work ethic
  • Must have good work ethic, arrive on time, and be hard working
  • Must be a team player
