About Us

Island Green Power is a leading renewable energy company dedicated to the development of sustainable energy projects, namely solar and battery storage. With a strong commitment to environmental sustainability and innovation, we strive to create a greener future by harnessing the power of renewable resources. At Island Green Power, we value teamwork, integrity, and excellence. Our diverse team of professionals collaborates to deliver outstanding results in the renewable energy sector. We foster a supportive and inclusive work environment that encourages growth, learning, and professional development.

About the Role

We are seeking a CAD Designer to join our growing technical team in London. In this role, you will support the design and assessment of large-scale solar PV and battery energy storage (BESS) projects across the UK. You will play an important part in shaping projects from early-stage feasibility through to planning and delivery, working closely with colleagues across development, engineering and project management. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys combining technical analysis with collaborative problem-solving and is motivated to contribute directly to the energy transition.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare high-quality CAD drawings to support land agreements, planning applications and project development
  • Produce option, lease and red-line plans for legal and commercial use
  • Develop preliminary solar PV and BESS layouts, designs and site constraint plans
  • Carry out early-stage site assessments and feasibility analysis
  • Undertake shading analysis and energy yield assessments using industry-standard software
  • Support project teams with clear, accurate technical inputs and documentation
  • Contribute to GIS-based analysis and mapping where required

About You

You will bring:

  • A degree (or equivalent experience) in engineering, renewable energy, geography or a related discipline
  • Experience (typically around 2+ years, but flexible) in CAD design, ideally within renewables, infrastructure or the built environment
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD (2D) — this is core to the role
  • Ability to interpret technical data and translate it into clear, accurate visual outputs
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple workstreams

Desirable (not essential):

  • Experience with GIS software (or willingness to learn)
  • Experience with PVCase or similar solar design tools
  • Familiarity with PVSyst or other energy modelling software
  • Understanding of solar PV and BESS technologies and system components

How You Work

  • Well organised and detail-focused, with a structured approach
  • Analytical and inquisitive, with a practical problem-solving mindset
  • Collaborative, with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams

Your Impact and Progression

Island Green Power is a high-growth renewable energy developer delivering large-scale solar and battery storage projects, supporting the UK’s transition to a low-carbon energy system. This role offers strong development opportunities as our portfolio expands. You will:

  • Contribute directly to live projects from day one, influencing early design decisions
  • Develop deeper expertise in solar PV and BESS design
  • Gain exposure to engineering design, technical optimisation and cross-disciplinary collaboration
  • Take on increasing responsibility as the business and pipeline grow
  • Learn from experienced professionals across development, engineering and project delivery

Our Offer

  • Competitive salary plus an annual bonus
  • 25 days annual leave plus public holidays
  • Private health insurance
  • Life assurance, critical illness cover and income protection
  • Electric vehicle salary sacrifice scheme
  • Access to a free gym

We Encourage You to Apply

We recognise that strong candidates do not always meet every requirement listed. If you have a solid foundation in CAD and are motivated to build a career in renewable energy, we would still like to hear from you. We are open to considering more junior or early-career candidates who demonstrate strong technical aptitude, attention to detail and a willingness to learn. GIS and sector-specific knowledge can be developed on the job, and we are committed to supporting your growth as part of our team. If you are looking to apply your technical skills in a role that directly contributes to the energy transition, we encourage you to apply and join our growing team.
