We are looking for an in-house paralegal, who will provide support to and closely assist the in-house Solicitor conducting work for a group of companies and covering a diverse area of law including civil litigation, media and entertainment law, immigration law, charity law, intellectual property law and contract law amongst others. The ideal candidate will work independently and will be based in Ilford (East London).
Main Role: To provide cost effective and efficient support to the team in the department.
Key Tasks:
- Support our legal department with administrative tasks, case management duties and general team responsibilities, including:
- Preparation of draft documents and forms for Head of Legal and the Senior Management Team’s review and approval.
- Review of files and preparation of file summary notes.
- Other tasks specific to the practice area, including dealing with Immigration, HMCTS, HMRC or Land Registry forms and filings as appropriate.
- Assisting the team with the day-to-day running of their administrative duties and caseload.
- Maintain all client files with attendance notes.
- Responsible for billing litigation case matters.
- Case and project management.
- Undertake legal research on a variety of matters and communicate research findings to the team in a clear and comprehensive manner.
- Drafting, negotiating and reviewing contracts and other legal documentation.
- Ensure that legal files are kept up to date with correspondence and documents.
- Provide administrative support across the department including photocopying, scanning, filing and collating large scale plans.
- Attend meetings with the team and take orderly and comprehensive notes.
- Make and receive telephone calls and deal with basic telephone enquiries including routine enquiries and communications.
- Provide support in a professional and friendly manner in keeping with the company’s missions and values.
- Data protection and privacy, including personal data breaches, data subject rights and complaints handling, mainly under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, and the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2002.
Person Specification:
- A first degree in law (or postgraduate diploma in law) or be a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (FCILEX).
- Minimum 12 months experience as a paralegal.
- Experience with corporate commercial law or contract law.
- Knowledge of civil litigation and court procedure is desirable.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritise and meet deadlines.
- Ability to analyse and solve problems under pressure, contributing to proactive, expert, timely and authoritative legal advice and support to stakeholders.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to complete assigned tasks effectively and promptly.
- Enthusiastic team player.
- High attention to detail.
- A desire to learn and progress.
