Assistant producer for Women’s programmes – Salaam Britain
Responsibilities
- Work with the team to develop and produce high-quality, original content for Salaam Britain across multiple platforms, from concept to completion.
- Ensure the programme reflects the interests, concerns, and achievements of Muslim women, while adhering to Islam Channel’s editorial guidelines.
- Carry out research, develop treatments, write scripts, and plan content that is engaging and thought-provoking.
- Source, invite, and brief suitable guests, presenters, and panellists with a focus on diverse women’s voices.
- Manage pre-production, including team briefings, scheduling, and coordination with crew and Studio Manager for shoots, sets, lighting, and technical set-up.
- Supervise shoots in the studio and on location, ensuring audio, lighting, and visuals meet broadcast standards.
- Collaborate with senior management to contribute to programming strategy and align content with audience needs.
- Manage, train, and mentor researchers, interns, and junior staff within the department.
- Apply Ofcom and Islam Channel editorial policies, ensuring all content complies with broadcast standards.
- Oversee production budgets, invoices, and expense claims where applicable.
- Troubleshoot challenges that may arise during production.
Skills and Qualifications
- A passion for creating women’s content that is engaging, inspirational, and culturally relevant.
- Strong editorial judgment with an understanding of issues affecting Muslim women in the UK and globally.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organisational and project planning skills, with the ability to handle multiple productions.
- Creative flair for developing compelling formats and visual storytelling.

- Technical skills, including filming with DSLR cameras, are desirable.
- Ability to present on camera would be advantageous.
Experience
- Minimum 3+ years’ experience in broadcast television with a proven track record in producing original content.
- Experience producing lifestyle, factual, or current affairs content, ideally with a focus on women’s issues.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, especially Premiere Pro and After Effects, is preferred.
