We're working with Instrumentix, a specialist financial technology business helping some of the world's leading banks, hedge funds, and trading firms understand how technology performance impacts trading outcomes. Their xMetrics platform provides Trading Infrastructure Intelligence, helping clients identify issues, improve performance, and gain greater visibility into their trading environments. They're growing and looking for two Linux Instrumentation Engineers to join the team. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career technology professional who enjoys Linux, data, troubleshooting, and understanding how complex systems work.

What You'll Be Doing

  • You'll join a collaborative operational team responsible for supporting client environments and investigating technical issues.
  • Initially, you'll spend your time:
    • Monitoring systems and environments
    • Investigating alerts and technical issues
    • Working with SQL to analyse and validate data
    • Using Linux on a daily basis
    • Supporting client-facing environments
    • Managing tickets and operational workflows
    • Learning about trading infrastructure and financial markets
  • Over time, you'll develop into a specialist Trading Infrastructure Engineer, gaining exposure to performance monitoring, observability, networking, databases, and capital markets technology.

What We're Looking For

  • Our client is more interested in curiosity, attitude, and technical foundations than years of experience. You’ll likely have:
    • A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related subject
    • Genuine experience using Linux beyond university coursework
    • Experience writing SQL queries and working with data
    • Strong problem-solving skills
    • A desire to learn and develop technical expertise

Particularly Interesting Backgrounds

  • Linux as your primary operating system
  • Raspberry Pi projects
  • Home labs or home servers
  • Docker projects
  • Bash or Python scripting
  • Monitoring and observability tools

What This Role Isn't

  • This isn't a software development role.
  • It isn't an AI, machine learning, or product engineering position.
  • Instead, it's a technical operations and infrastructure-focused role where you'll learn how critical trading systems are monitored, supported, and optimised.

What Success Looks Like

  • After 6 months, you'll:
    • Be confidently using Linux and SQL as part of your day-to-day work
    • Have developed a solid understanding of Instrumentix's platform, client environments, and operational processes
    • Be investigating and resolving a range of technical issues with increasing independence
  • After 12 months, you'll:
    • Be a trusted member of the team, capable of owning day-to-day operational responsibilities
    • Be confidently troubleshooting infrastructure and performance-related issues
    • Have built the foundations to progress towards becoming a specialist Trading Infrastructure Engineer

Why Join Instrumentix?

  • Work with leading financial institutions
  • Learn from experienced engineers and industry specialists
  • Develop highly sought-after Linux and infrastructure skills
  • Gain exposure to trading technology and capital markets
  • Join a growing company at an exciting stage of its journey
  • Clear opportunities for progression and development

Location

This is a hybrid role based in Central London, with regular office attendance expected. You'll be working closely with the team, learning from experienced colleagues, and developing your expertise in a collaborative environment. If you're naturally curious, enjoy solving technical problems, and want to build a career in Linux, infrastructure, and trading technology, we'd love to hear from you.
