Ishida Europe is a World leader in the design, manufacture and installation of complete weighing and packing line solutions. We currently have a dynamic role for a Lead Engineer to join the R&D team in Poole.
Main Purpose of the role
The R&D Lead Engineer is responsible for guiding and overseeing the development efforts within the organization. This role involves leading an indirect team to innovate, design, and develop new products or improve existing ones. The Lead Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet the company\’s quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership and Management:
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers.
- Set clear goals and expectations and provide regular feedback and performance evaluations.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture.
- Project Management:
- Plan, manage, and oversee development projects from conception to completion.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
- Develop project plans, timelines, and budgets.
- Development:
- Identify and prioritize new research and development opportunities.
- Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments.
- Design, prototyping, testing, and validation of new products or improvements.
- Utilising Design for Manufacture and Value Engineering techniques to ensure a smooth transition from design concept into manufacture. Design and detail to ISO standards.
- Work closely with other departments, such as marketing, production, and quality, to ensure alignment and integration of development efforts.
- Liaise with external partners, suppliers, and industry experts to drive innovation.
- Technical Expertise:
- Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices.
- Provide technical support to the Development team.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of all Development activities.
- Prepare and present regular progress reports to senior management.
- Ensure proper filing and accessibility of all technical documents.
What skills are we looking for?
We’re looking for an Engineer with a HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 5-7 years’ experience in development or bespoke machine design. Strong leadership, project management, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with proficiency in SolidWorks and the ability to apply engineering calculations to support designs.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of managing projects, with commissioning and site experience. Additional expertise in electrical, software, pneumatic equipment, or circuit design, particularly in the food industry, would be advantageous.
