Job Title: Design Manager
Business Unit: UK Construction
Reporting To: Divisional Design Manager
Office Location: Reading
Construction South is part of the UK Construction business, covering Wales, West, and the South East. Projects typically range from £5 million to £50 million, mainly in the Public Sector, with some in the Private Sector. Sectors include Leisure, Justice, Defence, Education, Health, and Commercial offices.
Role
- Appraise and ensure BREEAM obligations are met.
- Generate contractors’ proposals for submission.
- Set design deliverables for each consultant and CDP contractor, and schedule drawings, specifications, and other design information required for construction.
- For Design & Build projects, identify and agree on drawings and samples for client approval, and produce a programme of critical dates for client approvals.
- Monitor and report on design progress, statutory approvals, outstanding information, subcontractor design, and environmental/CDM issues.
- Review design information at tender and construction phases, and report on value engineering, statutory compliance, and contract coordination.
Skills & Experience
- Strong industry experience from architectural or project management backgrounds, with experience in projects exceeding £5 million.
- Experience with both design and build and traditional contracting methods.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Technical and design expertise.
- Understanding of the design and construct process.
