Position
We are seeking a Waste Environmental Consultant with 2-3 years' experience to join our growing Waste Management team. The successful candidate will support the delivery of landfill design projects and undertake Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) on site. Based in St Helens and working in a hybrid capacity, you'll collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to help clients reduce environmental impact, ensure compliance, and drive progress toward a circular economy. This is an excellent opportunity for a junior-mid level consultant to develop specialist expertise in landfill engineering, environmental compliance, and wider waste management consultancy.
What You Will Be Doing
- Assist in the design, specification and drafting of landfill engineering works, including lining systems, drainage, capping, leachate and gas management infrastructure.
- Carry out on-site CQA monitoring, testing and reporting for landfill cell construction and restoration works.
- Prepare CQA validation reports, engineering logs, field data and drawings in line with regulatory standards.
- Support senior engineers with design calculations, material specifications, QA/QC documentation and project reports.
- Liaise with contractors, regulators and senior engineers during project delivery.
- Undertake site inspections, audits and environmental monitoring as required.
- Assist with permit applications, waste management plans, and compliance reporting.
- Contribute to project resource planning and ensure work is delivered to time, budget and quality standards.
Requirements
What You Bring
- Degree in Environmental Science, Waste Management, Civil Engineering, Geology or a related field.
- Minimum 2-3 years' experience in waste management, landfill design, CQA, resource efficiency, or environmental consultancy.
- Strong knowledge of UK waste legislation, landfill design principles, CQA requirements, environmental permitting and environmental compliance frameworks.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and report-writing skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects effectively and meet deadlines.
- Competent in Excel; AutoCAD or GIS experience beneficial.
- Full UK driving licence. (Desirable)
- Membership or progress toward CIWM or IEMA. (Desirable)
- Experience using data analysis tools or digital waste management systems.
