PURPOSE OF THE ROLE Due to the continued growth and success of the firm, we are looking for an experienced and innovative environmental professional to shape and drive the firm's global environmental strategy and lead us on our pathway to Net Zero by 2045 or before. Responsible business is key to our business success and a core part of the way that we operate. We have a Gold EcoVadis medal, placing us in the top 5% of rated companies. Working closely with the Head of Responsible Business, you will provide support and input into the wider responsible business strategy from an environmental perspective. With the assistance of the Responsible Business Analyst and wider administrators, you will oversee the collation, monitoring and reporting of key environmental data to support commercial decision making, helping to bring the firm closer to its Net Zero goals. This opportunity can be based in either our Leeds, Manchester or London office with occasional travel to other AG offices as required to fulfil the role.

THE TEAM Our Responsible Business team is at the heart of delivering our commitment to making a positive impact on both society and the environment. You would join a team of eight colleagues, based across our UK offices, focused on driving meaningful change through the five pillars of our responsible business strategy: Colleagues, Community, Climate, Commercial (partnering with clients and suppliers), all of which is underpinned by Conscience (good governance). By embedding responsible business practices into everything we do, we aim to create a workplace that reflects our values, supports our people, and contributes to the communities we serve.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN THIS ROLE The following list is not exhaustive but gives a flavour of the duties the Environmental Sustainability Manager will undertake:

  • STRATEGY Develops and delivers the firm's environmental sustainability strategy ensuring alignment with business, regulatory and client requirements. Leads the development and implementation of environmental policies, plans and KPIs to embed and operationalise sustainability practices across the firm.
  • REGULATION AND COMPLIANCE Manages our environmental data (collection, analysis, verification and KPI tracking) to ensure accurate and robust data reporting. Develops and maintains the firm's environmental management system in accordance with ISO 14001 standards. Ensures compliance with environmental legislation and regulatory reporting requirements such as ESOS, SECR and CFD, coordinating with consultants as required. Produces our annual CPD submission and contributes to other relevant submissions, such as EcoVadis.
  • STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT Acts as a trusted expert advisor on all environmental / sustainability matters. Builds close relationships with colleagues across our business services teams, in order to operationalise our sustainability strategy. Supports preparation of bids and pitches and general requests from clients for environmental information. Collaborates with the firm's Procurement team to integrate environmental sustainability into our supply chain. Manages the relationship with our external carbon accountants and environmental consultants. Creates a strong external network, liaising with counterparts in peer firms, environmental organisations and public bodies.
  • COMMUNICATION Develops and implements an ongoing engagement/communications plan to raise awareness of the firm's sustainability commitments and activities. Produces effective and compelling reports for stakeholders which track progress towards environmental targets. Develops and rolls out environmental training to colleagues. Keeps our intranet and website up to date and creates environmental content for our annual Responsible Business Report.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED (BESPOKE TO ROLE) Our ideal candidate will need the following skills: Strong knowledge of environmental management with relevant experience in an aligned professional services environment. Comprehensive knowledge of statutory and regulatory requirements, management systems and the ISO14001 accreditation. Confident with data management and analysis, with a good knowledge of greenhouse gas/carbon accounting, target setting and progress reporting. Professional membership level of a relevant professional body preferred (e.g., IEMA/CIEEM/CIWEM). Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills with a strong track record of establishing and maintaining effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels. A self-starter with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-pressured environment, with advanced planning and organisational skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to present technical information in a clear and compelling way. Willingness to work flexibly to meet requirements of the role.
