Permanent position with a salary from £58k plus benefits including pension, BUPA, ShareSave, 6.6 weeks holiday, and hybrid working (3 days per week in the office). Location: Southampton, Store Support Office.

What’s the job?

Responsible for delivering B&Q's Net Zero strategy with a focus on Scopes 1 & 2 emissions through the implementation of sustainable energy and low-carbon solutions across the retail estate. The role ensures delivery of measurable reductions aligned to Kingfisher's Net Zero commitments while also supporting selected Scope 3 initiatives and contributing to supply chain decarbonisation.

Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities:

  • Lead the delivery of B&Q's Scope 1 carbon reduction programme, ensuring alignment with Kingfisher's Net Zero commitments.
  • Develop and maintain the Scope 1 carbon reduction roadmap, setting milestones and reporting progress.
  • Design and implement low-carbon and sustainable energy solutions across logistics operations and fleet decarbonisation.
  • Deliver measurable Scope 2 reductions through energy efficiency, estate electrification, and decarbonisation projects.
  • Monitor and report on Scope 1 & 2 performance, highlighting risks, opportunities, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with the Energy Buyer to oversee energy purchasing, REGOs, and estate-wide energy use.
  • Build robust business cases, financial models, and ROI analysis to secure investment for decarbonisation projects.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers to deliver Scope 1 & 2 initiatives at scale.
  • Act as the primary interface with Kingfisher Group's Net Zero programme, ensuring alignment with group wide strategies.
  • Track emerging technologies, industry trends, and regulatory changes to inform innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Support selected Scope 3 initiatives, applying B&Q's Scope 1 & 2 journey as a case study to influence suppliers.
  • Provide project management support for vendor engagement pilots and supply chain decarbonisation initiatives.

What we need:

  • Special expertise in application of net zero strategy to a large range of real estate/property types, technologies, and the analysis of data to optimise both carbon reductions and cost mitigation.
  • Prior experience in a large enterprise with proven track record in carbon reductions and cost savings.
  • Proven experience of planning and delivering technical projects.
  • Previous experience in property decarbonisation (highly desirable).
  • Innovative and creative with the ability to bring to life new ideas and innovation.
  • Driven and capable of working at pace.
  • Strong communicator capable of influencing at senior and all levels within the organisation.
  • Capable of building and presenting engaging presentations to senior business stakeholders.
  • Analytical with the ability to create insight and storytelling.
  • Electrical and/or Mechanical Technical professional qualification.
  • Experience in on-site management and leading technical specialists and teams.
