Overview
We are very fortunate to receive many donated books, which we then sell in our shops and on eBay. As a Book Sorter, you will support and assist the team in maximising the income generated by book donations. This role involves using the Ziffit app to scan in bar codes, ascertain the value of items, and then prepare those that will be sold to Ziffit for collection. Items of higher value will be sorted and prepped for sale in our shops and eBay. The role involves lifting books. Manual handling training is provided. We ask you to commit to at least one regular half-day weekly session. We have the following shifts available: 9am – 12pm, 1pm – 4pm, Monday, Wednesday & Friday.
What you’ll be doing
Under the leadership of a manager, you will be assisting with:
- Moving baths of items to be sorted
- Scanning bar codes on books to check their value
- Preparing items by boxing them up, ready for collection
- Assisting the team with sorting books for listing on eBay or selling in our shops
- Promoting the public’s understanding of the work of Isabel Hospice
- Promoting and applying the Isabel Hospice Health & Safety Policy
Your Skills and Abilities
- Enjoy working in a team environment
- Ability to move baths of items of varying sizes and weights safely (if required)
- Good organisational skills
- Interested in books and literature
- Comfortable with technology
- Knowledge of authors and book genres would be an advantage

- Live within an easy commute to the area
- Interested in volunteering for at least 6 months for at least 3 hours per week
