Based in Lochgelly, Fife, the company is at the forefront of innovation and excellence in high-tech manufacturing. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Principal Engineer to join the Facilities & EHS department. This role plays a key part in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, conducting risk assessments, delivering training, and driving continuous improvement across EHS systems and initiatives.
The Role
Reporting to the Facilities & EHS Manager, the EHS Principal Engineer will work closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance. Key responsibilities include:
- Developing, implementing, and monitoring the EHS Management Systems in compliance with legislation.
- Keeping up to date with EHS regulations and advising senior management on compliance requirements.
- Conducting audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations, ensuring corrective actions are in place.
- Supporting the EHS Committee to ensure clear communication and consultation on health, safety, and environmental matters.
- Managing EHS training programs to ensure compliance across the organisation.
- Overseeing incident response procedures and ensuring the emergency response team is in place.
- Ensuring compliance in key environmental areas such as:
- PPC Air Permitting, Trade Effluent Wastewater, and Hazardous Waste Management
- ISO14001 environmental management systems and audits
- Chemical storage, handling, and emergency planning
- ISO45001 safety management systems and audits
- Laser Safety, Ionising Radiation, and RF Safety
- Incident investigation, emergency management, and hazardous chemical handling
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- 5+ years of experience as an EHS Principal Engineer in a manufacturing, oil, or chemical industry setting.
- A NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent qualification) in Health & Safety.
- A STEM degree (Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or similar).
- Strong knowledge of ISO14001 and ISO45001 standards, including experience in audit compliance.
- Membership of a professional body such as IOSH or IEMA.
- Experience in risk assessments, COSHH, accident investigation, and problem-solving techniques.
- A solid understanding of regulatory bodies and compliance requirements.
- Project management skills with the ability to drive EHS initiatives.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills.
Desirable:
- Semiconductor manufacturing experience would be a plus.
