Overview
Our selection process is designed to give you the opportunity to showcase your potential and learn more about our firm. It includes the following stages:
- Online application form
- Online assessment, including video interview questions
- Assessment Centre
- Insight day and final stage assessment
Your application will be considered for a training contract commencing in September 2027 and 2028. We encourage you to submit your application as early as possible. Please note that for some office locations, we operate a rolling recruitment process and may close ahead of the advertised application deadline. To help minimise the risk of unconscious bias, we use an anonymised screening process when reviewing applications. You may submit only one application per recruitment round for any of our training contract opportunities.
Training Contract
This is an exciting opportunity to join Irwin Mitchell as a Trainee Solicitor within Legal Services for Individuals in our Newcastle office. You’ll gain hands‑on experience across a variety of legal areas and work alongside experienced professionals who are passionate about delivering excellent client service. Throughout your training contract you will be supported with structured development, mentoring and exposure to high‑quality work that will help you build a strong foundation for your legal career.

Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE)
The SQE is the new centralised assessment for all aspiring solicitors in England and Wales, introduced in September 2021. At Irwin Mitchell, candidates who have already completed the Legal Practice Course (LPC) are not required to undertake the SQE. However, we no longer sponsor the LPC. If you are offered a training contract to start in 2027 or 2028 and have not yet completed the LPC, we will sponsor you to undertake the SQE. You must successfully complete both SQE1 and SQE2 before starting your training contract. Please note: We do not reimburse fees retrospectively.
