Overview

Trainee Costs Draftsman to join our Court of Protection/Public Law & Human Rights costs team in Sheffield. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious individual to join a growing national team. You will deal with solicitors’ files across a range of disciplines and prepare costs claims for submission to opposing solicitors or the courts. You’ll have the chance to work on negotiations with opponents and have client contact. You may be required to undertake additional training and encouraged to study for professional Law Costs qualifications. Ideally, you’ll have experience working either in house or for an external supplier of costs drafting services.

Responsibilities

  • Deal with solicitors’ files across a range of disciplines and prepare costs claims for submission to opposing solicitors or the courts.
  • Negotiate with opponents and maintain client contact.
  • Engage in additional training and study for professional Law Costs qualifications when encouraged.
  • Adapt to a flexible approach to respond to changing schedules and priorities.
  • Communicate clearly with stakeholders across the business.

Qualifications

  • Analytical approach to data and numerically oriented work.
  • Experience either in house or for an external supplier of costs drafting (with scope to look outside this).
  • Open to undertaking additional training for professional Law Costs qualifications.
  • Desirable financial or legal qualifications (e.g., CILEX Part 1 Year 1) or a law degree.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to interact with stakeholders across the business.
