We are looking for a Costs Draftsman/Lawyer to join the Court of Protection costs team in Sheffield. The role involves preparing Bills of Costs for assessment, interacting with clients, providing advice and instructions, drafting inter partes Bills of Costs, supporting fee earners, and training junior staff.
Your Role and What You'll Be Doing
- Prepare Bills of Costs for assessment.
- Interact with clients to provide advice and take instructions throughout the case.
- Draft inter partes Bills of Costs as required.
- Provide technical support to fee earners.
- Participate in training junior members of the team.
About You
- A minimum of two years’ experience, either in‑house or for an external supplier of costs drafting services.
- Basic knowledge of legal procedures.
- Proven experience with IT systems and time‑recording procedures.
- The ability to manage caseloads and competing deadlines whilst maintaining attention to detail and a seamless service.
- A flexible approach enabling you to respond to rapid changes in priorities.
- Excellent communication skills and professional telephone manner.
- Ability to communicate clearly with stakeholders across the business.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Desirable: financial or legal qualifications e.g., ACL qualification, ILEX Part 1 Year 1.
- Desirable: Experience in one or more legal departments, preferably with COP experience.
