Your Role and What You\’ll Be Doing

We currently have a paralegal opportunity within the Public Law and Human Rights Department in our Bristol office to undertake casework and support on a range of public law and human rights cases.

The team undertakes work in civil liberties (including actions against the police and inquests), mental capacity and Court of Protection welfare disputes, and education. Our lawyers are experts in their field.

Our Public Law and Human Rights department is ranked as a leader in various fields in both the Chambers & Partners and the Legal 500 directories. Many of our solicitors are ranked individually.

We handle high-profile, cutting-edge cases and have a reputation for test cases. Our work has a national reach, with public law teams in ten offices across the country.

We hold Legal Aid Agency contracts in public law, community care, and claims against public authorities, and are also instructed by privately funded individuals, professional associations, charities, and voluntary organizations. We collaborate closely with colleagues in Irwin Mitchell to provide comprehensive services to our clients.

About You

Experience as a paralegal or in public law/human rights, especially in the areas mentioned, would be advantageous but not essential. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a genuine interest in these areas, primarily assisting with health and welfare Court of Protection matters.

Candidates should have excellent client care skills, a sensitive understanding of clients’ needs, and good communication skills to work effectively with diverse people.

Additional qualities include excellent analytical and organizational skills, teamwork, thorough documentation, IT literacy, attention to detail, initiative, and a working knowledge of legal aid systems is desirable. A degree or equivalent is required.
