Our legal experts combine technical excellence with empathy, understanding, and a commitment to always put our clients first. You'll feel part of a welcoming, inclusive environment where your individuality matters. We celebrate what makes you unique and support you to thrive. Together, we achieve incredible things and make a real difference to our clients and communities.
Role Overview
You will be joining Legal Director Zoe Brodrick and her team, who deal with multi-track low value Medical Negligence cases (including proceedings) nationally, with wide ranging types of claims valued up to £50k. The types of cases are vast and include missed fractures, delays in diagnosis, negligent surgical procedures, ophthalmic and fatal cases involving adults and children. This is a hybrid role, working 2 days onsite in our Sheffield office location.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing your own caseload of sub £50k.
- Taking instructions from clients and assisting with the giving of legal advice, including obtaining medical and other evidence, pre‐action protocol work, instructing counsel and cases in proceedings to achieve appropriate resolutions for the clients.
- Achieving time recording and fee income targets to ensure profitable working.
- Attending and contributing to team/practice area meetings and comply with directions/decisions made to ensure team objectives achieved.
- Keeping up to date with changes in relevant law and practice and attend appropriate training events to ensure up to date legal knowledge and best practice.
Qualifications & Experience
Proven case handling experience at Grade C - D level, in either a Paralegal or Case Handler role. Experience within Medical Negligence would be an advantage, particularly with lower value or varied claims; however, we also welcome applicants with experience in other areas of law, who are looking to apply their existing skills in a new rewarding specialism. You will bring maturity, resilience, and a genuine commitment to delivering excellent client care. Demonstrable experience in working to time recording and fee income targets. The ability to demonstrate empathy, compassion and sensitivity when supporting clients through challenging situations. Highly organised and proactive, with excellent workload and prioritisation skills. A friendly, enthusiastic and can‐do approach, with a positive can‐do attitude. Strong relationship building skills with clients, colleagues and external stakeholders.
Benefits
25 days holidays as standard plus bank holidays – you can 'buy' up to 35hrs of extra holiday too. Generous and flexible pension schemes. Volunteering days – Two days of volunteering every year for a cause of your choice (fully paid).
Wellbeing & Culture
We also offer a wide range of well‐being initiatives to encourage positive mental health both in and out of the workplace and to make sure you're fully supported. This includes our Flexible by Choice programme which gives our colleagues more choice over a hybrid way of working subject to role, team and client requirements. We have been ranked in the Best Workplaces for Wellbeing for Large Organisations for 2024! Our responsible business programmes are fundamental to who we are and our purpose. We're committed to being a diverse and inclusive workplace where our colleagues can flourish, and we have established a number of inclusion network groups across our business to support this aim.
