The Court of Protection is the judicial body responsible for making decisions relating to the management of finances and other affairs of those individuals who lack the mental capacity to do so themselves. As one of the UK’s leading firms of solicitors, we have a dedicated and experienced team who specialise in all matters relating to the Court of Protection. We help clients who are responsible for managing someone else’s affairs, those who are concerned about the ability of someone else to manage their own affairs or another person’s affairs and clients who may be concerned about their own ability to manage their affairs.

Your Role and What You’ll Be Doing

We are looking for a proactive and detail‑focused paralegal to join our Court of Protection team in Leeds, supporting the management of client finances. This is a key support role within the team, with a focus on reviewing, processing and managing invoices and payments on behalf of our clients. This is an office‑based role, working closely with fee earners and the wider team to ensure accurate and efficient financial administration across client matters.

  • Reviewing invoices received in relation to client matters and processing.
  • Ensuring invoices are accurate, appropriate and supported by relevant information.
  • Processing payments in line with internal procedures and required approvals.
  • Liaising with third parties.
  • Communicating with suppliers, care providers, case managers and other professionals.
  • Querying or clarifying invoices where required.
  • Ensuring correct details are provided to enable timely payment.
  • Budget monitoring and financial oversight.
  • Checking invoices against agreed budgets and highlighting any variances.
  • Raising any concerns regarding overspend with the relevant fee earner.
  • Supporting fee earners in ensuring client expenditure remains proportionate and in line with best interests.
  • Financial record keeping.
  • Maintaining accurate and up‑to‑date financial records.
  • Updating spreadsheets, internal systems and payment trackers.
  • Ensuring a clear audit trail of all financial activity.
  • Supporting fee earners and the wider team.
  • Working closely with fee earners to progress payments efficiently.
  • Assisting with general financial administration across files.
  • Supporting the smooth running of the team’s invoice and payments process.
  • General paralegal support.
  • Undertaking additional paralegal or administrative tasks as required.
  • Contributing to team efficiency and continuous improvement of processes.
  • Time recording in line with targets.
