Your Role and What You’ll Be Doing
Head, spinal cord and other serious and fatal injuries can cause huge disruption to the lives of both the sufferer and their loved ones. They can mean a total rethink of major life decisions, affecting family members, employment, healthcare and everyday life. Serious injuries are hugely traumatic and need to be handled with utmost care and expertise. Our serious injury team prides itself on making a real difference. We help our clients to live their life as fully as possible after a serious injury. We have years of experience helping people claim compensation for serious injuries and have specialist teams across the UK. Irwin Mitchell is one of the few firms to offer a rare opportunity to specialise in working with individuals affected by serious injury and is a deeply rewarding area of personal injury law. You will join our team in our Newcastle office, specialising in pursuing high value and complex cases involving serious brain and spinal cord injury, amputations, serious orthopaedics injuries and fatal collisions. The team has achieved many multi-million-pound awards on behalf of their clients and is externally recognised for their experience and specialism by the Legal 500, Chambers and Partners and the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL).
Working on complex high value cases including obtaining documents and medical and other evidence, instructing Counsel and assisting with other litigation tasks. Working independently and as part of a team to deliver the best outcomes for our seriously injured clients. Achieving time recording and fee income targets to ensure profitable working. Working to deadlines and complying with directions / decisions made. Reviewing records and compiling bundles. Attending meetings and taking notes. Keeping up to date with changes in relevant law and practice and attending appropriate training events to ensure up to date legal knowledge and best practice.
About You
- Experience in serious injury work is not essential; previous Paralegal experience would be advantageous, but is not required.
- Excellent client care and interpersonal skills, operating with integrity and showing empathy and intuition to help guide our clients through challenging personal circumstances.
- Have ambition and enthusiasm for serious injury litigation.
- A friendly, enthusiastic, and can-do approach.
- Be able to work collaboratively and independently.
- Be highly organised.
