Underground Utilities Safety Coach
Reading / London | Β£63,000 + Car or Car Allowance
Are you an experienced utilities professional who knows what good looks like when it comes to working safely around underground services?
Irwin and Colton are working with a leading infrastructure services provider to recruit an Underground Utilities Safety Coach. This is a specialist role focused on improving standards, reducing underground service strikes and helping operational teams safely plan and deliver work around buried utilities.
Rather than simply policing compliance, you'll be out with operational teams, coaching, challenging and sharing best practice, helping ensure the right approach is taken before work starts and throughout delivery.
What will you be doing?
- Acting as a specialist point of contact for safety around underground utilities and services.
- Coaching and supporting operational teams to improve safe working practices and prevent utility strikes.
- Visiting sites across the region to review how underground services are identified, located and managed.
- Supporting teams with the safe planning and execution of works involving underground utilities.
- Conducting site inspections, audits and risk assessments and identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Reviewing incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and helping implement practical preventative measures.
We're particularly interested in candidates who bring strong practical knowledge of underground utilities and can engage confidently with people on site.
Ideally, you will have:
- Experience working with underground utilities, buried services or utility infrastructure.
- A strong understanding of the risks associated with excavation and underground services.
- The confidence to coach, influence and challenge operational teams in large, complex organisations.
- Extensive experience within utilities and underground services is essential
- A NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent Health and Safety qualification would be advantageous.
- A full UK driving licence.
This is a great opportunity to join a major infrastructure organisation in a position where your expertise can directly influence how work is carried out and help prevent potentially serious underground service incidents.
Irwin and Colton is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion; please let us know if we can do anything to make the process more accessible to you.
