Are you looking for an opportunity to lead and influence Health and Safety strategy across a complex academic estate, embedding a positive and proactive safety culture? Irwin and Colton are proud to be working with a well-established and leading educational institution to recruit a Head of Health, Safety and Fire Safety. This role offers the opportunity to lead health and safety across a large and diverse academic environment, supporting a thriving community of thousands of students, academics and professional staff. With responsibility for a varied estate that includes around 80 buildings across a 16 acre campus, the role will play a key part in embedding a practical, risk-based approach to health and safety and strengthening a positive safety culture across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities of the Head of Health, Safety and Fire Safety Include:
- Develop and oversee university-wide health, safety, and fire safety policies and procedures
- Lead investigations into incidents, ensuring appropriate corrective actions are implemented
- Provide expert advice and guidance to senior management and staff on safety compliance and risk management
- Manage fire safety protocols, including evacuation procedures, drills, and records
- Lead, mentor, and support the health and safety team, fostering a proactive safety culture across all departments
The Successful Head of Health, Safety and Fire Safety will have:
- Relevant Health and Safety qualification and ideally NEBOSH fire as a minimum
- Experience in leading a health, safety and fire safety function and team for a large and complex organisation
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with experience in influencing and engaging with a wide range of senior stakeholders
- Strong knowledge of health, safety, and fire safety legislation, including risk assessments and incident investigation
