About the Role

Working within the Production Engineering team, as a Toolmaker you will be responsible for the manufacture maintenance, and repair of precision tooling and includes close involvement with the R&D department to manufacture a range of engineering components for unique projects.

Primary Responsibilities

  • CAD/CAM Programming (Inventor Cam/Solid Cam).
  • Direct programming using various controllers including, Hurco and Mazatrol.
  • Set up and operate CNC machines (Milling, Turning, Wire EDM).
  • Using conventional Milling machines and Surface Grinders.
  • Assembly of special purpose equipment.
  • Interpret and work from engineering drawings, CAD models, and technical specifications.
  • Assist in new product introduction (NPI) by developing and proving out new design concepts.
  • Follow health & safety procedures and best practices

Toolmaker Requirements

Essential skills and Experience

  • You will be an experienced CNC programmer.
  • Fully trained using CAD/CAM software.
  • Ability to read and interpret Engineering drawings.
  • Ability to understand various manufacturing methods and techniques (milling, turning, grinding).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Experience with precision measuring instruments (micrometres, verniers, gauges)
  • Problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
  • Apprenticeship in toolmaking, mechanical engineering, or similar (experience will be considered)
  • NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds (or equivalent) in Engineering or Manufacturing
  • High attention to detail and precision.
  • Practical, hands-on approach.
  • Self‑motivated with excellent communication and people skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to quality and continuous improvement

Advantageous Skills and Experience

  • CAD/CAM Programming using Inventor Cam (experience with other CAD/CAM packages will be considered).
  • Experience using a variety of CNC Machine tools with 3, 4 and 5 Axis Milling Centres.
  • A good understanding of Hurco, Mazatrol and Fanuc machine controllers.
  • Autodesk Inventor.
  • Experience with EDM Wire.

  • Standard working hours with occasional overtime based on business demands.
  • Flexibility to support production during urgent periods.
  • Workshop based/manufacturing environment.
  • During challenging periods shift work may be required.
  • Training will be given where necessary.
