JOB DESCRIPTION
As a member of the Electrical Engineering team, the Junior Electrical Engineer will work with more senior team members to provide technical oversight and support throughout the design, construction, testing/commissioning, and delivery of multiple classes of Royal Canadian Navy and Canadian Coast Guard vessels. This oversight and support will be provided through the application of practical job knowledge that is typically obtained through advanced education and work experience in the field of ship design and construction.
The Junior Electrical Engineer will work independently with general supervision from the Senior Electrical Engineers & Electrical Engineering Team Lead to review subcontractor calculations, models, reports, and technical specifications to ensure that electrical requirements from the customer, Classification Society, and shipyard have been achieved in the design. They will also be responsible to assist in developing solutions to resolve technical issues encountered during construction.
To support the major new design and construction projects that are underway, the Junior Electrical Engineer will be expected to work in both an office and shipbuilding industrial environment to provide Engineering Solutions to complex problems through the application of theoretical, practical, and lean engineering principles.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Originate, under the close supervision of a licensed P.Eng, routine or low complexity deliverables in an assigned job scope area.
- Review and raise comments against technical deliverables and products developed by internal & external stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement within their job scope area and the broader Engineering discipline.
- Identify risks associated within their job scope area, their function, or the broader Engineering Discipline.
- Support the needs of internal and external stakeholders within limits of delegated Technical Authority.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education:
- Bachelor of Engineering (B. Eng) or equivalent.
- Understanding of how to apply standards applicable to role, with guidance – typically via 0-6 years of progressive experience.
- General awareness of shipyard disciplines (hull structure, ship arrangements, ship piping systems, propulsion, HVAC, electrical, mechanical, producibility, manufacturing).
- Some exposure to or interest in marine field through work experience (e.g. co-op) or academic study.
