Are you a private chef or skilled home cook who enjoys preparing fresh, varied meals from scratch? We are seeking someone with strong practical cookery skills to support a client with a moderate physical disability. The role is around 60% focused on meal preparation, alongside driving, errands, trips to country parks, laundry and other household tasks. Food is a huge part of this role. The client has specific dietary needs and food sensitivities, so this would suit someone who enjoys cooking carefully within a clear brief.

You will need to be comfortable taking practical direction, following instructions closely and carrying out tasks in the client's preferred way. No personal care is required.

Hours: 10-20 per week, depending on your preference, including:

  • 2-3 weekday afternoons, 2pm-7pm
  • Ideally, 1 weekday evening or weekend afternoon
  • Optional: 12 weeks live-in holiday cover per year

Pay: £16 per hour, rising to £17 with experience

Key duties include:

  • Preparing high-quality, home-cooked meals from scratch
  • Following recipes, dietary instructions and kitchen systems carefully
  • Careful avoidance of gluten/allergen cross-contamination
  • Household support tasks, such as tidying, organising, bed-making, packing, errands and laundry
  • Driving the client to appointments and activities, using the client's vehicle

You will need:

  • Strong practical cookery skills and experience
  • A genuine love of food and cooking
  • Good time planning, kitchen hygiene and attention to detail
  • A full UK driving licence
  • Ideally, care/support worker experience
  • A kind, reliable, respectful and flexible approach
  • Patience and calmness on the client's higher pain days
  • Warmth, humour and a sense of fun

Cookery skills sought:

  • Egg cookery: omelettes, fried eggs, boiled eggs, frittatas and Spanish omelettes
  • Vegetables and grains: steamed and roasted vegetables, rice, quinoa and buckwheat
  • Potato cooking: mashed, roasted and new potatoes
  • Fish cookery: poaching, baking in parchment, pan frying and fishcakes
  • Salads: thorough washing of produce and safe knife skills
  • Dips and smoothies
  • Baking: gluten-free muffins and focaccia
  • Stewing and slow cooking: lamb tagine, beef chilli, chicken cassoulet
  • Meat cookery: pork tenderloin, roast chicken, homemade burgers, lasagne and cottage pie
  • Asian cookery: stir fries, egg fried rice, Thai curries and paneer
