Job Description

THE OPPORTUNITY:

Title: Data Center Design & Construction Project Manager (UK & EMEA)

Location: London/ UK – hybrid role

Project Locations: UK/Netherlands/Germany

Permanent role, full time employee

Primary purpose of the role:

Are you a natural problem-solver with a passion for delivering complex design and construction solutions?

As a Data Center Design & Construction Project Manager, you will be instrumental in delivering cutting-edge data center solutions for our new and existing clients. You will collaborate closely with Project Managers, Architects, Engineers and Contractors to transform existing data centers into more efficient and effective revenue generators. This is an exciting opportunity to elevate our data center offerings and make a tangible difference in our success.

The Project Manager will lead the full lifecycle delivery of data center “refresh” design and construction projects of existing “aging” data centers across multiple jurisdictions, with the goal of adding a minimum of 10 years of life to such data centers. This includes managing site assessments, coordination with data center operations, management of design and procurement, contractor oversight, commissioning, and handover, plus ensuring compliance with local regulations, international standards, and IMDC’s technical and commercial objectives.

Your role in our mission:

  • Manage multidisciplinary teams across site assessments, permitting, MEP, architectural, structural, and civil disciplines
  • Oversee design development, planning approvals, and permitting across UK and EU jurisdictions
  • Lead procurement and contract administration under JCT, NEC, and FIDIC frameworks
  • Drive project controls: budget, schedule, risk, and quality using tools like Procore
  • Ensure compliance with Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (UK), Eurocodes, and local building regulations
  • Coordinate commissioning activities including integrated systems testing
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders (e.g., IMDC operations) to align technical, safety, scope and delivery protocols
  • Maintain project documentation: risk registers, change logs, technical submittals, RFI trackers
  • Facilitate closeout and facility activation

Functional Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:

  • Education Degree in Engineering, Construction/Project Management, or UK equivalent (e.g., Level 5 or 6 engineering qualifications)
  • Experience 5–10 years’ in relevant sectors, such as mission-critical MEP, data centers, high-tech labs.
  • Project experience in a “live” operating environment is particularly valued
  • Certifications PMP, PRINCE2 or equivalent preferred
  • Software Procore, Bluebeam
  • Technical Understanding of MEP systems, UPS, chillers, BMS, fire protection, and compliance with design standards
  • Technical Worked with CPM schedules
  • Technical Worked on construction cost estimating
  • Technical Familiar with commissioning of complex systems
  • Technical Familiar with BIM
  • Technical Familiar with relevant standard contracts (e.g. NEC, JCT, FIDIC)
  • Technical Familiar with UK regulations (CDM, Building Regs, etc.)
  • Technical Familiar with sustainability frameworks (e.g. BREEAM)
  • Cross-Functional collaboration: Proven ability to work effectively and build relationships with various teams, departments, and stakeholders
  • Self-Motivated: Take initiative, manage projects independently, and identify opportunities for improvement, driving the continuous enhancement of the processes.
  • Remote worker Self-discipline, effective communication skills, time management, and proficiency with digital collaboration tools

Regional Expertise:

● Proven experience managing projects in at least UK and ideally EU jurisdictions

● Multilingual communication skills (preferred but not required)

Preferred Attributes:

● Experience with hyperscale, colocation and retail data centers

● Strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills

● Ability to operate in fast-paced, multi-project environments

Location & Travel:

● Based in the UK with occasional travel to EMEA sites

● Mixed/Hybrid working available depending on project phase
