INK / PRINT / CHEMICAL BACKGROUND PREFERABLE

In-House Operative - Day Shift

Monday-Thursday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Friday: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Location - Newport

Role Purpose

To provide on-site ink production support to the customer while maintaining high standards of health & safety, hygiene, quality, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Observe all customer and Flint Group Health & Safety rules and policies
  • Ensure the ink area complies with customer hygiene accreditation standards
  • Maintain dispensing equipment and working areas using good housekeeping practices
  • Dispense ink in line with daily production plans
  • Re-work or remix press returns where possible
  • Move products to and from holding bays
  • Clear press returns from the production floor
  • Book press returns into the dispense management system
  • Store press returns in clearly marked locations
  • Maintain agreed levels of 'common runner' inks in the Ink Kitchen
  • Wash ink buckets as required

Additional Responsibilities (After full training - approximately 6-12 months)

  • Place weekly material orders using the online portal (Webshop) and order forms
  • File delivery notes for month-end consignment stock counts
  • Replenish material stocks and update batch numbers in the dispense management system
  • Maintain and update ink recipe files
  • Assist with unloading ink deliveries during normal working hours
  • Arrange collection of empty containers or waste ink, ensuring:
    • Containers are safely palletised
    • Clamps are secured with cable ties
    • Lids are tightly fastened

Second Year Development Responsibilities (During the second year of training)

  • Provide on-site technical support to the customer
  • Support press trials and customer trials
  • Produce colour matchings (hand draw-downs) within agreed timeframes
  • Assist with on-press colour corrections and basic troubleshooting
  • Prepare monthly KPI reports based on customer consumption data
  • Record and manage non-conforming issues on press, ensuring appropriate corrective action

Skills & Experience

  • Good colour vision and strong attention to detail
  • Experience in an ink, printing, or packaging environment preferred
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision
  • Capable of working under pressure while delivering value to the customer
  • Strong IT and problem-solving skills
  • Must be methodical, organised, and maintain a tidy work environment
