McGuinness Mechanical Engineering is a growing mechanical contractor delivering large-scale residential and commercial projects across Ireland. As our project pipeline expands, we are building out our Pre-Construction team and looking for a technically strong individual to take ownership of projects from early design stage through to construction handover. This is an excellent opportunity for a Building Services Engineer, M&E Design Coordinator, or technically experienced professional from a consultancy, supplier, or contractor background who is looking to step into a more commercially focused, contractor-side position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead mechanical coordination across multiple residential and commercial projects from preconstruction through to handover
  • Chair and manage preconstruction coordination meetings with clients, consultants, and main contractors
  • Act as the principal technical liaison between design consultants, main contractors, and internal delivery teams
  • Oversee digital job setup and pre-site readiness using Procore and client-based platforms
  • Represent the company in design and technical meetings with clients and external stakeholders
  • Identify and resolve coordination issues proactively before they impact programme or delivery
  • Report regularly to senior management on preconstruction progress
  • Contribute to the development and standardisation of preconstruction workflows and technical documentation
  • Support and mentor junior team members as the department grows
  • Any other duties as requested or required by the Manager or Senior Management Team.

Person Specification:

  • Suitable backgrounds include: Building Services Engineer from a design consultancy looking to move contractor-side, M&E Coordinator or Technical Lead with experience in multi-unit residential or commercial projects, Technical or Specification Engineer from a manufacturer or supplier in the residential market (e.g. heat pumps, ventilation, controls), Estimator or Contracts Manager with a strong mechanical services background wishing to move into a preconstruction coordination role, Senior Project Engineer looking to step away from pure site delivery into a coordination-focused position.

Essential Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years experience in a technical role in mechanical or building services - including design, specification, coordination, project management, or technical sales
  • Strong understanding of mechanical building services systems used in residential and commercial construction
  • Experience at pre-construction or design coordination stage - not solely site-based delivery
  • Ability to read, interpret, and coordinate from mechanical drawings and specifications
  • Strong communication skills with experience engaging consultants, contractors, or clients at a senior level
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities across concurrent projects
  • Eligible to work in Ireland and the UK; full driving licence required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; familiarity with Procore or similar construction management platforms is advantageous

Technical Knowledge - Advantageous:

  • Candidates who have worked with any of the following will have a strong advantage - full technical onboarding and support will be provided: Exhaust Air Heat Pumps (EAHP) and Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP) - particularly in residential applications, Heat Interface Units (HIU), energy centres, and heating controls, MVHR (Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery) and MEV (Mechanical Extract Ventilation) systems, Communal cold water distribution and pressurisation systems, Dry risers, passive smoke ventilation, and mechanical smoke extract, AutoCAD or Revit for reviewing or contributing to mechanical services drawings, Design coordination and clash detection in a BIM-enabled project environment.

Employee Benefits:

  • Competitive salary package, commensurate with experience
  • 30 days annual leave (inclusive of ROI bank holidays)
  • Company pension scheme
  • A growing, ambitious company with a strong and expanding project pipeline
  • Real opportunities for career development and progression as the business scales
