To undertake the deep clean of pavements and street furniture within the Borough's main town centres.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the daily/weekly completion of specific work schedules in relation to the listed duties.
- Operate the deep cleaning equipment in a safe, efficient and effective manner to clean pavements to a high standard to meet customer expectations.
- Carry out daily checks on specified transport vehicles before leaving the depot and complete a daily check defect report sheet, returning the documentation to the Technical Supervisors in a timely manner.
- Ensure that the transport vehicle has fuel, oil and water as required and that all tyres are at correct pressures and safe for the road.
- Responsible for replenishing fuel and adding cleansing agents to the deep cleaning machine.
- Responsible for basic maintenance of the deep cleaning machine, e.g., changing brush heads.
- Responsible for cleaning all parts of the machine daily after use.
- Ensure all equipment is safely stored within the transport trailer at the end of the shift.
- Drive the transport vehicle and transport the trailer housing the Deep Cleaning Machine and associated equipment.
- Follow the reporting procedure in relation to vehicle accidents/breakdowns and report to the Technical Supervisor, including damage to the vehicle, third party vehicles or property, and complete accident and insurance report forms as necessary.
- Ensure the safety of the transport vehicle, trailer, deep cleaning equipment, Council employees, and the general public during working hours by carrying out risk assessments to ensure safe methods of working, particularly during periods of severe weather.
- Ensure appropriate signage and pedestrian barriers are in place to direct pedestrians away from the area where the deep cleaning machine is being operated.
- Keep the transport vehicle clean, both internally and externally.
- Assist with the promotion of good working relationships between the Council, customers, and members of the public.
- Implement and comply with the declared policies and procedures of the Council.
- Act in accordance with the Code of Conduct for Local Government employees.
- Comply with and promote equality, health and safety in accordance with Council Policies and legal requirements and wear all items of personal protective clothing as issued.
- Undertake any other appropriate duties as may be allocated from time to time in accordance with the general nature of the post, including interchange of duties to cover for leave, sickness, and employee vacancies.
Person Specification:

- Experience: At least two years experience in paid employment of outdoor manual work and heavy lifting; experience of working as part of a team; experience working in a waste and/or cleansing environment; experience of driving a vehicle and towing a trailer in paid employment.
- Key Skills & Abilities: To be a good team worker; ability to use own initiative; understanding and appreciation of the needs of the public; ability to safely drive a van and trailer on a public highway.
- Other Requirements: A current valid Driving Licence with category B plus E entitlements; applicants must be available to work outside normal working hours to facilitate the washing of pavements and should be available at weekends and public holidays as required; appointment will be subject to a driver assessment and satisfactory completion of a medical questionnaire including a pre-employment Drugs and Alcohol Screening; to undertake training in the operation of the street cleaning machine.
