Your new company is a well-established food manufacturing business in the County Derry/Londonderry area seeking an Environmental Officer Lead to join its team. This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives within a growing manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining environmental standards, driving continuous improvement, and supporting the site's long-term sustainability objectives.
Your new role as Environmental Lead will involve managing and continually improving the site's ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, ensuring full compliance with environmental legislation, permits, and company standards. You will work closely with operational teams to monitor environmental performance across areas, including waste management, energy consumption, water usage, recycling, and emissions. Additionally, you will coordinate internal and external ISO 14001 audits, manage environmental improvement projects, support sustainability initiatives, and prepare regular reports for senior management. The role will also involve liaising with regulatory authorities, supporting compliance requirements, and investigating environmental incidents to ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
What you'll need to succeed:
- Good understanding of UK environmental legislation and compliance requirements
- Knowledge of environmental permitting, waste management, water treatment, and energy management
- Strong organisational, administrative, and documentation skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work across all levels of the business
- Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Experience managing or supporting an ISO 14001 Environmental Management System is desirable
- A degree or qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Sustainability, or a related discipline would be advantageous
