About Us: Briggs Equipment Group is a leading provider of material handling, powered access, plant and specialist rental equipment offering new and used sales, short and long-term hire, engineering services, training and asset management. We have a new opportunity for a Group Tax Accountant to join our team based in Lisburn to support the Finance function by improving and documenting key tax, VAT and customs-related processes.
In this role you will:
- Create and implement a process for gathering corporation tax information on a regular basis throughout the year.
- Consider existing VAT reviews, identify required actions and arrange for implementation of any necessary changes.
- Establish a process for Intrastat and EC Sales List reporting, including reviewing historical compliance and filing any outstanding returns where required.
- Support the Customs Manager and the wider finance team to bring the TSS system reporting up to date and put in place a process for ongoing reporting.
- Review VAT codes currently being used in Sage and assess whether they are appropriate and consistently applied.
- Prepare a clear process document for a VAT review process, including responsibilities, review points and corrections if necessary.
- Identify process gaps, control weaknesses and recommend practical solutions.
- Create SOPs for the business where required.
- Work with colleagues across Finance, Tax and Customs to embed improved processes and ensure handover at the end of the assignment, supported by the SOPs.
What will help you to excel in this role:
- Experience in finance, tax, VAT or compliance, preferably gained in a multi-entity or international business, with exposure to ROI and UK regulations.
- Strong knowledge of VAT compliance and reporting requirements, ideally of both UK and ROI VAT.
- Experience with Intrastat and EC Sales List reporting.
- Understanding of corporation tax information requirements and year-end reporting processes.
- Experience reviewing finance system VAT codes, ideally within Sage.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise effectively and deliver to deadlines.
- Good communication skills, with the ability to work across finance and operational teams.
