About the role: The Financial Accountant role is primarily focused on delivering accurate and timely monthly reporting for the Natural Gas Northern Ireland (NG NI) business, with additional support to the Finance Managers responsible for other energy entities in the group, as required. The role is suited to someone with strong technical accounting skills, attention to detail, and a methodical approach to reporting and reconciliation. It is an excellent opportunity to develop within a collaborative finance team while gaining exposure to both regulated and commercial energy businesses. This position would suit a newly qualified accountant or a practice-trained professional keen to gain hands-on experience in industry. It offers the opportunity to develop commercial skills in a fast-paced environment, working alongside experienced finance leaders. The successful candidate will be proactive, willing to learn, and keen to build a strong grounding in operational and commercial finance within the energy sector. Key Responsibilities: Monthly Financial Reporting Prepare and post journals (accruals, prepayments, recharges, etc.) Produce monthly management accounts with clear supporting schedules Perform balance sheet reconciliations to group deadlines Investigate and explain variances against budget and forecast Assist in the preparation of internal and external financial reports Supports the business teams through implementation, monitoring and ongoing improvement of the finance system processes to meet business needs in an efficient and effective manner Audit and Compliance Support preparation of year-end files and statutory audit requests Assist with the completion of regulatory returns and tax submissions Maintain and improve financial control processes ERP & Process Support Ensure accurate use of ERP system for all financial postings Identify and resolve issues in workflows or reporting logic Contribute to documentation of month-end processes and controls Cross-Entity Support Provide ad hoc support to Finance Managers across other group entities (gas and electricity) Payment checks pre-release from bank Share knowledge and collaborate on standardising reporting approaches Candidate Profile: Were looking for a qualified accountant (ACA or equivalent) with strong technical accounting knowledge, excellent Excel skills, and ideally, experience working with ERP systems.
