Ulster Carpets is a respected family-owned carpet manufacturer, established in 1938. The company is recognised globally for unrivalled design capability and customer service, producing premium woven carpets for customers around the world from our manufacturing site in Portadown. Following significant investment in our plant and facilities, we have an opportunity for a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join our team on a permanent night shift (11pm to 7am).
In this role, you will help drive business success by providing maintenance, repair, and installation support across all mechanical systems, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of plant, machinery, and equipment across the site.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience as a mechanical fitter with exposure to electrical systems
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and schematics
- Sound knowledge of basic electrical principles and safe isolation procedures
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving abilities
- Good knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations
Desirable (but not essential) Skills and Experience:
- Practical electrical maintenance experience
- Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, and welding
- Experience of working in a manufacturing or process environment
- Experience in working with industrial steam boilers
Qualifications:
Level 3 qualification in primary related trade with a minimum of 3 years experience (e.g., NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds), or equivalent qualification.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on mechanical systems and equipment.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical faults.
- Assemble, install, test, and maintain mechanical systems, plant, and equipment.
- Assist with electrical work such as motor changes, sensors, and basic wiring where required.
- Support breakdown response and emergency repairs to minimise downtime.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, manuals, and technical documentation.
- Work collaboratively with engineering, production, and external contractors as needed.
- Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental procedures and ensure safe working practices at all times.
- Accurately complete maintenance records, work reports, and documentation, logging information electronically.
