About this role
Purpose of the Role: The Managing Director is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, growth and strategic development of Macklin Care Group. The role carries full accountability for operational performance, care quality, workforce effectiveness, financial results, governance, culture and long-term sustainability across all services operated by the Group. The Managing Director will lead the day-to-day operations of the business, ensuring exceptional care outcomes, strong commercial performance, and sustainable growth across residential, nursing, specialist, and workforce services.
Working closely with the CEO, Board and senior leadership team, the postholder will translate strategic ambition into operational delivery, building a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, innovation and excellence. The Managing Director is ultimately accountable for the successful performance and growth of all current and future services within Macklin Care Group.

Key Responsibilities:
Business Leadership & Performance
- Lead the overall operational performance of Macklin Care Group, including care homes and the care agency.
- Deliver agreed strategic, operational and financial objectives.
- Develop and execute annual business plans aligned to the Group's long-term strategy.
- Ensure the organisation consistently delivers outstanding care alongside strong financial and operational performance.
- Drive continuous improvement across all areas of the business.
- Ensure effective use of resources to maximise quality, efficiency and sustainability.
- Create clear accountability for performance throughout the organisation.
- Develop a culture focused on results, ownership and continuous improvement.
Strategic Leadership
- Work with the CEO and Board to develop and implement the Group's strategic plan.
- Translate strategic objectives into clear operational priorities and measurable outcomes.
- Support the development of future growth plans and service expansion opportunities.
- Ensure organisational structures and leadership capability support long-term growth.
- Lead major transformation, improvement and change initiatives.
- Ensure the organisation remains responsive to changing market, workforce and regulatory challenges.
Operational Excellence
- Ensure all services operate safely, effectively and efficiently.
- Drive improvements in income, occupancy, workforce stability and culture, productivity, and resident experience.
- Monitor performance across all services using meaningful operational and financial metrics.
- Lead performance improvement plans where services are underperforming.
- Ensure effective systems, processes and controls are in place across the Group.
- Promote innovation and adoption of technology to improve service delivery and operational effectiveness.
- Establish a culture where operational excellence is embedded throughout the organisation.
Quality, Governance & Compliance
- Hold ultimate accountability, including responsibility for care quality, governance and regulatory compliance across the Group.
- Ensure robust governance systems operate effectively across all services.
- Provide leadership and oversight through the Director of Operations for Clinical Governance.
- Ensure all services consistently meet or exceed regulatory standards.
- Oversee safeguarding, risk management, complaints management and quality assurance systems.
- Ensure learning from incidents, inspections and audits is embedded throughout the organisation.
- Assure the CEO and Board regarding quality, safety and compliance performance.
- Maintain positive and professional relationships with regulators and external stakeholders.
Financial Leadership
- Hold full accountability for the Group's financial performance.
- Deliver agreed revenue, profitability and cash generation targets.
- Work closely with the Finance Director to ensure robust financial planning, forecasting and budgetary control.
- Ensure effective financial governance and commercial decision-making.
- Evaluate investment opportunities and capital expenditure proposals.
- Drive value creation and long-term financial sustainability.
Leadership & People Development
- Build, lead and inspire a high-performing senior leadership team.
- Create a culture of accountability, ownership and continuous improvement.
- Develop leadership capability throughout the organisation.
- Ensure succession plans are in place for all key leadership roles.
- Foster a highly engaged and positive workplace culture.
- Work closely with HR to improve retention, engagement and workforce stability.
- Promote Macklin Care Group's values across all services.
Growth, Acquisitions & Service Development
- Lead the identification, evaluation and integration of growth & acquisition opportunities.
- Develop scalable systems, structures and leadership capability to support future growth.
- Drive and integrate the operational system as appropriate, utilising AI at all stages to drive efficiency.
- Ensure newly acquired services are successfully integrated into the Group's culture, governance and operating model.
- Identify opportunities for service diversification and expansion where aligned with the Group's strategic objectives.
- Ensure all current and future services operate to consistent standards of quality, governance and performance.
- Work closely with the Board to evaluate investment opportunities and support long-term value creation.
- Develop and implement growth strategies that strengthen the Group's market position and sustainability.
Stakeholder Management
- Act as a key ambassador for Macklin Care Group.
- Build strong relationships with regulators, Trusts, professional bodies, suppliers and industry partners.
- Represent the organisation externally when required.
- Develop positive relationships with residents, families and community stakeholders.
- Support the CEO and Board in developing external partnerships and opportunities.
Reporting & Accountability
- Provide regular performance reports to the CEO and Board.
- Ensure robust management information systems are in place.
- Use data, benchmarking and trend analysis to drive decision-making.
- Monitor progress against strategic objectives and key performance indicators.
- Ensure accountability for delivery across all areas of the organisation.
