Senior hands-on leadership role spanning people management, architecture, and delivery in a distributed, cloud-native environment.
Join a globally operating business at Manager level, with real influence over engineering standards and team culture.
This is a rare opportunity to step into a genuine technical leadership position at a company where engineering decisions carry real weight. You will lead a cross-functional team of software engineers delivering business-critical applications, working across the full development lifecycle from design through to production. The expectation is hands-on: you will be shaping architecture decisions and reviewing code as much as coaching people and managing delivery. You will work closely with Product Owners, Business Analysts, and Solution Architects, and your team will look to you to set the bar for quality, pace, and engineering culture.
If you thrive in complex, transaction-heavy environments and want a role where your technical credibility matters as much as your leadership capability, this is worth a conversation.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead a cross-functional engineering team to deliver high-quality, business-critical software on time and to standard.
- Own accountability for technical quality, stability, and performance of all delivered solutions.
- Drive engineering best practices across code review, automated testing, CI/CD, and secure development.
- Collaborate with Solution and Enterprise Architects to ensure solutions align with target architecture and technology standards.
- Partner with Product Owners and Business Analysts to refine requirements and translate them into clear, deliverable work.
- Identify and remove delivery impediments, working with Scrum Masters and Delivery Managers to maintain team velocity.
- Mentor and coach engineers, supporting performance reviews, career development, and skills growth across the team.
- Contribute to incident and problem management, supporting investigation and resolution of production issues where required.
- Essential: Proven experience leading a software engineering team in an Agile environment, with a strong track record of delivery.
- Hands-on software engineering background in at least one modern language, such as C#, Java, or similar.
- Demonstrable experience designing and building distributed, event-driven, or cloud-native systems.
- Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines and source control (e.g. Git, GitLab, or similar).
- Solid understanding of OO design principles and automated testing across unit, integration, and end-to-end levels.
- Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
- Desirable: Background in financial services, trading platforms, or other complex, transaction-heavy environments.
- Experience with microservices, containerisation, and orchestration tools such as Docker or Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with front-end technologies such as React or TypeScript alongside back-end development.
- Salary from £75,000.
- Hybrid working model, Belfast-based.
- Manager-level position within a globally recognised, market-leading business.
- Real technical autonomy... this is not a figurehead role.
- Work on genuinely complex, high-stakes systems at the centre of global financial markets.
- Strong culture of engineering excellence, continuous improvement, and collaboration.
- Tangible investment in mentoring and career development at every level.
