Hours: 37.5 hours per week, worked flexibly on a rota basis across 24/7 hours. Sleep-in duties are also required.

Responsible to: Service Manager

Main Function of Job: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Project Worker to join the team at Thompson House. Who will support the residents in their rehabilitation programmes within the policies and standards of PCI, Thompson House, the Probation Board and within the Christian ethos of Presbyterian Church in Ireland (PCI) to ensure quality of service delivery. About Thompson House: Thompson House is a Probation Approved Project providing rehabilitation for 19 male offenders and ex-offenders. The project aims to create an environment with a Christian ethos, offering support and guidance as residents are encouraged towards a Christian way of life. However, the project is open to men of any religion or none.

About The Role

  • Key Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Support for Residents:
    • Participate in the admission of residents.
    • Participate in the assessment of individual residents in conjunction with professional staff to draw up and implement rehabilitation plans.
    • Under the supervision of professional staff, undertake key work responsibilities for designated individual residents, including participation in monitoring and reviewing residents progress on a regular basis.
    • Participate in the rehabilitation programme of the residents, including one to one work and social and independent living skills development.
    • Provide appropriate follow-up for ex-residents as necessary and as approved by senior management.
    • Supervise and assist residents in preparation of meals.
    • Communicate the Christian faith, appropriately, by word and action, both individually and as part of a team. This will include facilitating bible studies, Christianity Explored courses, devotions and prayers at team meetings.
    • Accompany and support residents in attending church, when requested and as approved and recorded by senior management.
    • Promote equality of treatment in relation to residents.
  • Administration:
    • Maintain files and records in accordance with Probation Board Hostel Standards.
    • Maintain accurate financial records, including records of residents rent and petty cash.
    • Maintain appropriate confidentiality on information relating to residents.
  • Health and Safety:
    • Exercise vigilance regarding health and safety of personnel and hostel premises, and report any concerns or faults to the Service Manager.
    • Carry out daily health and safety checks, ensuring any issues are addressed promptly.
    • Contribute to the overall security of the personnel and premises within the hostel.
  • Training:
    • Participate in training sessions organized by the Council for Social Witness, the Probation Board, and other relevant agencies as required.
  • Other Duties:
    • Undertake any other relevant duties as required by the Service Manager to ensure the smooth operation of the Project and the well-being of the residents.

  • A commitment to the Christian ethos of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland and the work of Thompson House.
  • Experience or a genuine interest in working with offenders, ex-offenders, or individuals in rehabilitation.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively with residents and colleagues.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work within professional standards.
  • A compassionate and non-judgmental approach to supporting individuals in their rehabilitation journey.

Required Criteria:

  • GCSE passes in 4 subjects, grades A-C, including English Language and Maths or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of health and safety practices in a residential setting.
  • Knowledge of best practices in rehabilitation of ex-offenders.
  • At least 1 years experience supporting adults in a caring/residential setting.
  • Experience in administrative duties, including record writing.
  • Must be willing to behave in a manner which respects the Christian ethos of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland.
  • Must be available for flexible working on rota across 24/7 hours, including sleep-ins as required.
  • Must be eligible and willing to maintain registration with the Northern Ireland Social Care Council.

Desired Criteria:

  • A relevant qualification e.g. NVQ Level 2 Award in Care or Criminal Justice or a Youth and Community Qualification.
  • Knowledge of best practices in rehabilitation of those with addictions.
  • Knowledge of anti-discriminatory practices and equality of treatment.
  • Knowledge of NISCC Codes of Practice.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation.
  • Knowledge of Trauma informed practice.
  • Previous experience of working with ex-offenders.
  • Previous experience of working in the field of substance misuse.
  • Previous experience of working with people who have mental health problems.
  • Experience of Criminal Justice/ Hostel accommodation.
