The Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Commercial Solicitor to join a growing in-house legal function. This position offers exposure to a broad mix of commercial, corporate, procurement and regulatory matters, providing the chance to work closely with stakeholders across multiple disciplines. You will play a key role in supporting strategic objectives by delivering pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice and partnering with teams across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Advising on statutory and regulatory obligations relevant to the organisation's operations, including areas such as planning, environmental law, procurement, competition law, licensing and contractual frameworks.
- Monitoring legal and regulatory developments, assessing their impact and guiding the business on necessary actions.
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements, including supplier contracts, service agreements, framework arrangements, IT licences and consultancy contracts.
- Working collaboratively with operational, engineering, regulatory and commercial teams on key projects such as infrastructure developments, investment programmes and regulatory submissions.
- Translating complex legal concepts into clear, practical guidance for non-legal colleagues.
- Supporting the management of disputes, including litigation and alternative dispute resolution processes.
- Assisting with corporate governance matters, including board support, preparation of board papers and maintenance of statutory records.
- Developing strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, regulators, external counsel and industry partners.
- Managing external legal advisors to ensure quality and value.
- Contributing to team knowledge sharing and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Undertaking additional duties as required.
About You

Essential Criteria
- Qualified solicitor with approximately 2 years' post-qualification experience.
- Ability to manage a diverse caseload across areas such as commercial contracts, procurement, regulation, planning/environment, infrastructure projects and data protection.
- Strong legal acumen combined with sound commercial judgement.
- A detail-oriented, proactive and solution-focused mindset.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Willingness to develop expertise in new legal areas and gain sector-specific knowledge.
