Vickerstock are working in partnership with a leading engineering and manufacturing organisation to recruit a Project HSE Operative. This is a hands-on, highly visible role within a busy production environment, offering the opportunity to play a key part in driving safety standards and continuous improvement across operations. You will work closely with production and operational teams to embed a proactive safety culture, ensuring HSE practices are not only compliant but practical and fully integrated into day-to-day activities. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being on the ground, engaging with teams, and making a real impact on workplace safety.
In your new role:
- Maintain a strong presence on the production floor, promoting safe working practices
- Act as the key point of contact for HSE matters across production and warehouse areas
- Support teams in identifying hazards and implementing practical safety improvements
- Conduct site inspections, audits, and follow up on corrective actions
- Prepare and review Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS)
- Manage Permit-to-Work systems, including high-risk activities such as hot works
- Deliver toolbox talks, inductions, and on-the-job coaching
- Investigate incidents and near misses, ensuring root cause analysis and effective close-out actions
- Maintain accurate HSE records, reports, and action trackers
- Monitor trends and support continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure compliance with HSE legislation, company standards, and audit requirements
- Collaborate with production teams to resolve safety issues in real time
What you will need to succeed:
- Recognised Health & Safety qualification (e.g. NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent)
- Minimum 2 years' experience in a Health & Safety role within manufacturing or production
- Strong understanding of HSE regulations and their practical application
- Experience managing permit-to-work systems
- Ability to develop and implement risk assessments and RAMS
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at all levels
- Proactive, hands-on approach with strong attention to detail
- Ability to work in a busy environment and manage multiple priorities
Desirable (it would be great if you have this, but don't worry if you don't):
- Experience within lean manufacturing or warehousing environments
- Familiarity with digital HSE management systems
- Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on continuous improvement
- Experience supporting audits and regulatory inspections
