Reporting to the Director of Place, you will support the Director and the Senior Management Team in the leadership and management of the Council. As part of this function, you will have strategic and operational responsibility for key operational services, with a particular focus on logistics-intensive functions. This will include providing leadership across service delivery, workforce deployment, asset utilisation and supply chain activities to ensure services are delivered efficiently, safely and in a cost-effective manner.
The Assistant Director will apply logistics and operational expertise to optimise routes, schedules, resources and infrastructure, supporting business continuity and resilience. The role will involve working closely with elected Members, senior colleagues, trade unions and external partners to drive service improvement, manage risk and ensure high standards of performance, governance and customer service across operational services.
This role has an assigned portfolio of functions which currently include:
- Refuse and Cleansing
- Waste Processing and Enforcement
- Environmental Health (commercial and residential)
- Parks and Open Spaces
- Harbours and Marinas
- Animal Welfare
- Health and Safety
You will drive change and improvements both individually and collegiately promoting and demonstrating the values and behaviours of the council, whilst driving innovation and high standards.
