We have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Maintenance Craftsperson to join our Estates team on a permanent basis. This position is well-suited to a confident, hardworking person who is looking to gain experience in a hospital setting.
Job Role:
- Undertake essential reactive and emergency repair work, alterations and general maintenance to the building infrastructure using specialist knowledge of engineering and/or plumbing equipment and infrastructure.
- Liaise with the Planning and Scheduling Manager and/or Estates Officer regarding Engineering/Plumbing repairs and maintenance, and to request the supply of appropriate materials.
- Construct, assemble, erect, and install minor works for the upgrade and alteration, and alterations to assist the maintenance and development of services, ensuring the provision of a safe, secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
- Arrange transport of equipment, materials, and tools from the workshop or stores to a point of work identified by their supervisor.
- Daily duties will involve the frequent movement of heavy items of materials and equipment (in excess of 15Kg) with or without lifting aids in accordance with the guidance provided within the Trust’s ‘Lifting and Handling Training Manual’.
- Duties will involve working within areas such as operating theatres, mortuaries, laboratories, or patient diagnostic areas where local policies must be adhered to.
- In addition, duties will be undertaken within clinical environments which may involve witnessing patients in various stages of their illness/recovery. Works undertaken in such areas must be sensitive to the patient’s condition while working in a safe and secure working environment.
The Successful Candidate:
The ideal candidate will be skilled in maintenance, fault finding, test and repair work on a wide range of engineering/plumbing services and equipment. This role is subject to Standard DBS disclosure.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
- ‘Time served’ apprentice, NVQ III or City & Guild Level 3 in Plumbing or engineering.
- In-depth knowledge of all relevant legislation and technical guidance.
- Ability to work unassisted in varying technical environments while complying with Health and Safety/environmental regulations and standards.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Able to participate in outside of normal hours on call rota.
- Extensive knowledge of mechanical and/or plumbing systems.
