Full-Time On-site
I

Overview

As Director of Engineering (InfraOps), you will lead a global InfraOps function responsible for federated operations, core infrastructure, datastores, and near 24/7 incident support. You’ll shape the operating model, governance, and supplier relationships to enable product teams while balancing cost, resilience, and service quality. You will manage a ~45-strong engineering cohort across multiple geographies, focusing on capability building and accountability rather than hands-on technical delivery. This is a strategic leadership role with clear impact on large-scale software operations and cost efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Shape and operate the InfraOps function: structure, service offering, and ways of working
  • Define boundaries and ownership between InfraOps and product engineering teams
  • Set objectives, KPIs, and service expectations aligned to Engineering goals
  • Lead cross-geography managers and partners; workforce and succession planning
  • Govern service desk operations, incident management, and on-call coverage
  • Manage platforms, tooling, and supplier relationships; cost, renewal, licensing, governance
  • Ensure compliance and risk controls (SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR) and disaster recovery readiness
  • Own budget, headcount, capacity modelling, and investment planning
  • Drive continuous improvement in service delivery and operational governance
  • Maintain strong governance around change management, releases, and access administration

Key requirements

  • Degree-qualified in Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent industry experience
  • Experience at Director level running an InfraOps/operations function of similar scale
  • 10+ years in infrastructure/InfraOps/ops engineering; 3+ years line-managing managers
  • Experience supporting multiple product teams in a central InfraOps function
  • Budgets, headcount and supplier commercial ownership (renewals, negotiations, cost optimisation)
  • Experience with service desk, incident management, and 24/7 support models
  • Multi-cloud knowledge (Azure, AWS) and hybrid/private-cloud experience
  • Experience with compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR)
  • Strong commercial acumen and ability to articulate cost/value to execs
  • Executive stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration
  • Cross-functional relationship building
  • Delegation and accountability
  • Decisiveness under pressure
  • Multi-cloud (Azure, AWS)
  • Service desk governance and incident management
  • FinOps, cost visibility and forecasting
