Our client is looking for an Older Person’s Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) to join their IDVA Service in Derbyshire. You’ll provide support and guidance to high-risk victims of domestic abuse, with a specific focus on customers aged 55 and over. You’ll understand the needs of groups who face additional barriers to disclose and respond appropriately.

What you’ll do:

  • Provide advice, advocacy and support to high risk victims and survivors of domestic abuse, with a specific focus on customers aged 55 and over.
  • Work within a multi-agency framework including MARAC, the police, health professionals, child protection, housing practitioners and other voluntary and statutory specialists.
  • Support victims-survivors in navigating the criminal/civil justice systems, ensuring they are aware of their rights and options.
  • Work in partnership, where relevant/appropriate, with the perpetrator intervention service, making sure all necessary processes are carried out to maintain the safety of the victim/survivor.

Who you are:

  • You’ll have a good level of education including GCSE English and Maths, or equivalent.
  • You’ll have substantial experience supporting individuals on a 1-2-1 basis.
  • You can evidence self-development or formal learning and development in sector skills.
  • You have experience directly supporting adults who have experienced domestic abuse or who have other complex needs.
  • You have a formal qualification, such as IDVA, or the willingness to complete this.
  • You have a good understanding of domestic abuse, including the impact on those affected by it and the legal and practical remedies available to them.
  • You will have a full UK driving licence and use of your own vehicle for work.
  • An Enhanced DBS and Police Vetting is required for this role.
