Iris Care Group is seeking a dedicated and motivated Speciality Doctor in Adult Psychiatry to join the clinical team at St Peter’s Hospital, Newport, a specialist low‑secure service providing high‑quality care to adults with complex mental health needs. This role offers the opportunity to work with a diverse and clinically fascinating patient group, including individuals detained under the Mental Health Act, those with neuropsychiatric presentations and patients progressing along structured recovery pathways within both hospital and specialist group home settings.
The post holder will work under the supervision of the Consultant Psychiatrist and will contribute to the delivery of safe, evidence‑based psychiatric care. They will play an active role in multidisciplinary team processes, including MDT reviews and CPA meetings, working alongside colleagues in Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Therapy and Nursing. The position also involves providing psychiatric input to patients in Iris Care Group’s community‑based specialist homes as required and may include occasional cross‑site cover within the organisation.
Key responsibilities:
- Delivering high‑quality psychiatric assessment, treatment and review
- Participating in MDT and CPA meetings and contributing to collaborative care planning
- Supporting clinical audit and maintaining high standards of clinical governance
- Contributing to the psychiatry on‑call rota in line with company policy
- Liaising with external agencies, including the Welsh Division of Psychiatry and the Welsh Psychiatric Society
- Sharing knowledge with colleagues and supporting learning across disciplines
The successful candidate must hold full GMC registration with a licence to practise. A commitment to evidence‑based practice, high‑quality patient care and effective multidisciplinary working is essential. The role requires excellent communication skills, professional integrity and the ability to work collaboratively within a structured clinical environment.
