Job overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled individual to join a dynamic new team leading transformation and change across the council.
Islington's Transformation Unit frames, drives and delivers change across the council, within a framework of clear outcomes, priorities and enablers.
Main duties of the job
As Transformation Project Manager, you will shape and manage projects aimed at driving change in key areas of council activity, consistent with organisational priorities and strategy.

This is a varied role combining project management, continuous improvement and stakeholder engagement, to actively shape and deliver change projects across Islington.
The Transformation Unit embeds a robust PMO framework for strategic projects and programmes across Islington.
- Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Shape and drive key elements of corporate change to advance and embed the council’s guiding approach to pursuing its priorities, supporting the twin goals of improving outcomes and reducing costs.
- Promote and embed a range of change methods and tools as appropriate to specific challenges.
- Undertake service reviews into particular parts of the organisation, helping identify and resolve challenges and support improvements.
- Build and maintain constructive working relationships with wider teams and groups.
- Proactively champion change and improvement across the council.
- Go beyond service and project information presented, getting to the root of a problem, analysing cause and effect.
- Implement consistent governance standards across the projects allocated, including tracking, monitoring and updating the status of project deliverables.
- Develop, own and implement project plans, seeking contributions from key stakeholders.
- Undertake projects including thematic review work and ensuring the delivery of service improvements.
- Provide monitoring information and flag issues and deviations from plans.
- Work with managers and service representatives to identify and apply efficient means of delivering improvements to business processes and strategies.
- Deliver change projects of organisation-wide significance, taking personal responsibility for their direction and delivery, working with a significant degree of autonomy.
- Resolve issues and barriers with officers to ensure that projects progress.
- Actively identify new change and improvement opportunities, building a case for change that persuades stakeholders and the wider organisation to engage.

- Experience of leading or managing change projects.
- Experience of designing and implementing effective strategies.

- Prince 2 / Agile Project Management certification.

- Knowledge of concepts, methods, tools and techniques to support the design and delivery of real and lasting change.
- Experience of working within a structured project management framework.
- Experience of project management tools, methodologies and techniques.
- Knowledge and awareness of local government finances, commercial issues and business case development.
- Knowledge and experience in undertaking programme evaluations, setting targets, monitoring of project performance and delivery for continuous improvement.
