Responsibilities

  • Effectively lead and direct the Food & Safety Team to ensure that all relevant matters are handled in accordance with statutory requirements and Council policy.
  • Monitor the team’s performance to ensure fully contributing to the Council’s strategic objectives.
  • Develop and implement processes and working practices to ensure that all enforcement and inspection duties, and goods and services offered are carried out efficiently, effectively and with customer focus.
  • Identify opportunities to generate income and work with relevant Officers to implement them.
  • Manage a busy and varied workload, including a team of Environmental Health Officers and Technical Officers.
  • Provide advice and deal with all issues relating to food inspections, food poisoning, food hygiene, Environmental Health certification and animal licensing.
  • Demonstrate vision and leadership while handling casework.

Qualifications, skills and experience

  • Environmental Health Degree or Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) diploma, or Diploma in Environmental Health.
  • Knowledge and experience equivalent to the above (e. g., one or more approved qualifications in Food and Health & Safety).
  • Management or coaching qualification or proven experience in a management role.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e. g., CIEH).
  • Management qualification (ILM Level 3 or higher or equivalent) or relevant experience.
  • Understanding of waste and environmental legislation.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Personal attributes

Positive, polite, and professional attitude; experience in inspiring, motivating, empowering, and enabling others; outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal; good level of resilience; organisational and cultural awareness, diplomacy, and tact.
