Job Summary: Mechanical Design Engineer with experience of working with live customer focused projects, responsible for designing gas, hydraulic and process systems from first principles. You will be responsible for machining drawings with geometric tolerancing, instrumentation pipe-work schematics (P&ID’s), fabrication drawings, system designs and GA drawings in both 2D and 3D CAD packages and liaise with customers to outline design concepts.
Responsibilities:
- To be an operational member of the design team to ensure systems are delivered on time and to specification.
- Concept system design including pneumatic and hydraulic circuits, pumps, tooling and fabrication.
- Dynamic seal design for high pressure gasses.
- Produce engineering calculations to ensure specifications are met including good understanding of thermodynamics, mechanical design and structural calculations, material compatibility, flow through valves and pipework, volumetric pressure calculations and power consumption calculations.
- Be responsible for detailed drawings, general arrangement drawings, P&ID drawings and bill of materials.
- Compiling detailed component specifications for various regions and component/system validation including relevant paperwork i.e. ITP’s, RA’s, DFMEA, SWI’s, SOP’s, FAT’s etc.
- Complete engineering and project documentation to ensure continued compliance with ISO standards and CE marking directives.
- Lead on design reviews to communicate system design to full project team.
- Creating technical files and data books including Machinery Directive, PED, ATEX & IECEx technical files and customer specific quality documentation.
Basic Qualifications/Experience: An appropriate Engineering related degree is essential. Previous relevant experience is also essential.

Travel & Work Arrangements/Requirements: The Mechanic Design Engineer position is a full-time permanent role based at the Sunderland Facility.
