ERS is the UK’s largest specialist motor insurer with an A+ rating. For those people, standard insurance isn’t enough. That’s why we work exclusively with motor insurance brokers to help get under the skin of the most difficult insurance risks, helping build products to meet their customer’s needs.
The role will involve:
- Monitoring adherence to plan and performance metrics.
- Supporting the production and operationalisation of the Active Portfolio Management performance monitoring process including building MI, reports and presentations, working with relevant functions (including Underwriting, Finance and Actuarial).
- Working with UW teams to develop class-level underwriting plans aligned to the businesses strategic goals.
- Support the delivery of the Active Portfolio Management framework to track plan delivery, observe and make recommendations from the emergence of outcomes and move consistently towards the target, or optimised, portfolio.
We currently operate a hybrid working model. This entails 3 days per week collaborating with colleagues in the office, and 2 days working from home.
Key responsibilities:
- Analyse underwriting performance analysis across all classes of business through underwriting data, including loss ratios, premium trends, rating adequacy metrics and portfolio analysis.
- Produce effective and accurate MI to agreed deadlines.
- Support the framework for effective performance management, including meeting format, cadence and content.
- Enhance and maintain key performance indicators (leading and lagging) and metrics to track and monitor underwriting performance.
- Work with the Data and Digital team to design and roll out market leading dashboards/MI.
- Support the Head of UW Performance and Senior UW Performance Analyst in the execution of the Portfolio Management Framework.
- Support production of Divisional performance steering and Whole Account SPPR packs working with the Senior UW Performance Analyst, shared functions and HODs.
- Work cross functionally and foster a constructive relationship with shared functions, notably Data & Digital, Pricing, Outwards Reinsurance, Exposure Management and Capital.
- Monitor market trends and competitive landscape including the identification of possible growth opportunities and underperforming areas.

Qualifications, skills and experience:
- Relevant experience in Insurance Analytics, Actuarial work, Pricing or Portfolio Management.
- Experience within an analytical role producing quality MI and reporting.
- Strong IT literacy including MS Office skills, particularly Excel (including VBA).
- A high level of numerical competence; excellent data gathering and manipulation skills.
- Experience of dealing with multiple stakeholders across different functions.
- Strong communications skills.
- Maths, Science, Economics or Engineering degree; first or upper second class.
- Maths A-Level (A* to B).
- If actuarial background, demonstrable success with actuarial examinations.
