Moog Reading Ltd is looking for a Plating Technician to strengthen the team. You will report to the Machine Shop Manager and be responsible for introducing new or improving existing processes in an established plating workshop in collaboration with the manufacturing engineering department. You will ensure that existing processes are managed and maintained according to established parameters, enabling the company to manufacture all its products according to required specifications, quality standards, schedules, and costs.

Job Functions

  • Planning procedures and methods to ensure best practices and high efficiency.
  • Creating and maintaining control plans for each process and supporting processes.
  • In accordance with the control plans, ensure that bath parameters are periodically adjusted or maintained within control plan limits and trend charts in collaboration with the responsible manager.
  • Highlighting current process issues and integrating improvements.
  • Assisting in guiding, training, and reviewing the work of other employees in plating as needed.
  • Creating proposals for cost savings and productivity improvements in manufacturing.
  • Making recommendations regarding new equipment and factory layouts, conducting and/or participating in inspection functions such as first article inspections, coating quality, and surface finish.
  • Providing information on performance, e.g., standard achievement, rejection logs, and other agreed documentation for continuous improvement measures.
  • Procurement and maintenance of consumables necessary for production maintenance.
  • Performing various plating operations on parts or assemblies to apply a coating of the required type, e.g., copper, silver, and gold.
  • Responding to quote requests within the desired timeframe and with an acceptable degree of accuracy.
  • Working with tight tolerances, strict inspection standards, and critical operational requirements when introducing new products.
  • Recognising obvious defective or damaged parts, incorrect sizes, and/or faulty processing.
  • Passing on recommendations for quality and productivity improvements to management.
  • Setting up/supporting waste treatment procedures and monitoring safety in the plating area.
  • Identifying and reporting improper operation, faulty equipment, defective materials, and unusual conditions to the CNC/Moulding/Plating Supervisor.
  • Implementing 5S practices to ensure a clean, tidy, and safe environment.
  • Complying with established company rules and regulations as well as quality standards.
  • Making recommendations for improving existing manufacturing processes, methods, and tools that enable economical and accurate product manufacturing.
  • Collaborating with production planning to identify and eliminate potential bottlenecks in the manufacturing process.
  • Adhering to the company's work practices, methods, and processes as well as all current and future health and safety regulations.
  • Controlling manufacturing costs in relation to the budget, working to reduce variety and standardise where possible.
  • Providing support in other areas of the company as reasonably required.

Qualifications

  • Qualification in chemical processes (ONC/D, HNC/D, C&G or similar) or equivalent experience is required.
  • FMEA training is desirable.
  • Training in Lean Manufacturing is desirable.
  • A completed apprenticeship, craft, or technical qualification is desirable, but relevant expertise is acceptable.

Experience and Competencies

  • At least 5 years of experience in a production environment.
  • Competence in plating processes and equipment.
  • Competence in setting up and using machines/tools.

Security Clearance

Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) Clearance is required and must be maintained for this role. Please note that you may not qualify for the role and/or an offer may be withdrawn for national security reasons if clearance cannot be obtained.
