The Electrical Designer will be responsible for liaising with clients to agree specification and completion of electrical design to the relevant industry standards. Establishing feasibility of projects from a design perspective and working in line with members of the existing design and estimating teams to deliver work packages. Providing technical support to project management and delivery teams based on the approved designs.
Role Responsibilities:
- Initial and ongoing liaison with the client to establish the design parameters.
- Liaising with the DNO and adopting IDNO to obtain design approval.
- Establish sufficient relevant information to carry out risk assessments in relation to the network type and construction methods to be incorporated into the design.
- Design and develop electrical network and create detailed electrical schematics and diagrams.
- Design the network using design tools such as AutoCAD / Windebut / Castline, selecting the correct demand/voltage and thus the network routing, terminations and any requirement for switchgear etc. Create detailed electrical schematics and diagrams.
- Maintaining a record of the progress of each design project in respect of design progress, communication and notices/applications/forms etc.
- Ensure design is legally compliant and if third party land access required provide information to allow wayleaves/servitudes to be agreed.
- Stay up to date with advancements in electrical engineering and incorporate new technologies into designs.
- Strong skills in reviewing and checking designs and drawings for accuracy and buildability.
- Create & deliver the information required to make clients aware of their responsibilities.
- Carry out a hand-over meeting and provide operations with enough information to execute the work safely.
- Respond to requests for variations to the design and process these in accordance with agreed procedures.
- Produce cost estimates in line with current commercial procedures
Skills and Experience:
- Proven work experience as a Designer or in similar role
- An ability to prepare and interpret data, schedules and step by step action plans
- Solid organisational skills, including multitasking and time management
- Strong interpersonal skills – focus on problem solving. Speaking clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations
- Decision making – display a willingness to make decisions, exhibit sound and accurate judgement and include appropriate people in the decision-making process.
- MS Excel, Project, Word and PowerPoint skills to intermediate level or above. Excellent IT skills
- Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and persuasively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to work under pressure and meet project delivery timescales.
Technical:
- Electrical Qualification (Degree – Electrical Engineering or equivalent)
- Relevant Electrical Industry experience for the last 5 years working as a Design Engineer on HV & LV Distribution Networks.
- The Designer must have relevant experience in the UK market within the last 5 years with a DNO, IDNO, ICP or UCP.
- LV/HV Design Engineers Course – Contestable Electrical Connections Work
- Good Working Knowledge of the Electrical Contestable Market & Regulations
- Knowledge of the Electricity at Work Regulations
- Design experience– Underground Cables/Primary & Secondary Substations along with EV
- Experience & Knowledge of Autocad / Windebut / Castline or similar
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Experience with technical documentation and reporting.
- Ability to provide technical support and guidance
- Full Driving Licence
