The Role
As Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will provide commercial leadership across a portfolio of major power, substation and energy infrastructure projects. Working closely with the Division Commercial Manager (UK & Ireland), project teams, clients, subcontractors and senior stakeholders, you will be responsible for protecting commercial performance, managing contractual risk and ensuring projects are delivered successfully from a commercial perspective. You'll also play an important role in mentoring junior surveyors and developing best practice commercial processes across the business.
As our Managing Quantity Surveyor you will:
- Lead the commercial management of MV/HV, Substation and BESS projects, ensuring profitability, commercial performance and contractual compliance.
- Manage NEC3/NEC4 contracts, including Compensation Events, variations, Early Warnings and change control.
- Oversee CVRs, forecasting, project budgets, cash flow and commercial reporting.
- Develop procurement and subcontract strategies, including negotiations, valuations, payments and performance management.
- Identify and mitigate commercial risks, supporting claims management and dispute avoidance.
- Provide commercial input into tenders, contract reviews, pricing strategies and risk assessments.
- Build strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and key project stakeholders.
- Mentor and support the development of Assistant and Trainee Quantity Surveyors.
- Drive continuous improvement across commercial processes, systems and reporting.
- Promote high standards of safety, quality and operational excellence across all projects.
About You
You are an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor looking to take the next step into a broader commercial leadership role. You enjoy building relationships, influencing key decisions and finding commercially sound solutions to complex project challenges.
Essential Requirements:
- Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline.
- Strong experience working with NEC3 and NEC4 contracts.
- Background within infrastructure, utilities, energy, power, construction or engineering projects.
- Excellent commercial, contractual and financial management skills.
- Experience managing subcontractors and supply chain relationships.
- Strong reporting, forecasting and CVR experience.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and commercial management systems.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable Experience:
- Experience within MV/HV power projects, substations, BESS or energy infrastructure.
- Knowledge of EPC project delivery environments.
- Experience in dispute resolution, claims management or contract negotiations.
- Previous leadership or mentoring experience.
